Dr. Purohit’s sons, Avi and Abhishek Purohit, will be joining the Purohit Pediatric Clinic Anniston office at the end of summer 2023. We are excited to welcome them to our team of providers!
Dr. Avi Purohit, DO, MPH
Dr. Avi Purohit was born and raised in Alabama. He completed his undergraduate degree with a Biology major at Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Ala. Afterwards, he obtained his Masters in Public Health degree with a double major in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Boston University in Boston, Mass. Additionally, he worked in the pediatric anesthesia research department at Boston Children’s Hospital for one year. His team’s work was presented at several major pediatric and anesthesia conferences. Then, he completed medical school at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan, Ala. He finished his pediatric residency training at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron.
For hobbies, he loves to play tennis and road bike along with exploring new cities and traveling. Given his public health background, he is passionate about caring for his pediatric patients at the individual and community levels.
Dr. Abhishek Purohit, DO
Dr. Abhishek Purohit was born, raised, and educated in Alabama. He graduated magna cum laude as a Spanish major and Phi Beta Kappa from Birmingham-Southern College. While in college, he immersed himself in Spanish by volunteering as a translator at a free clinic and studied abroad in Viña Del Mar, Chile.
In 2016, he graduated from Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan, Ala., and went on to complete his post-graduate medical training at Maimonides Medical Center in New York City. While there, he took special interest in learning about asthma, caring for premature neonates, and performing a quality improvement project in the Neonatal ICU. His project focused on improving the NICU’s workflow to start IV fluids containing dextrose in under 60 minutes for extremely premature neonates. In April 2023, he presented his research at a national academic conference, Pediatric Academic Society, in Washington, D.C.
Abhishek is extremely excited to be moving back to Anniston, Ala., with his fiancée Dr. Nipa Parikh DMD, a general dentist who will practice in Anniston. He enjoys the outdoors, playing tennis, hiking, and mountain biking.
